Diabetes and Depression

Author: Webmaster

If you are diabetic, you may experience depression. Studies have shown that people who have diabetes are more prone to depression than those who do not. There is no clear reason why this is so, but it is believed that the depression comes from two different areas. The first is the initial diagnosis of diabetes. Of course, being diagnosed with any lifelong condition could cause depression. It is important to realize that the depression caused by the diagnosis should quickly pass. If it doesn’t, you need to discuss the depression with your doctor.Depression may also set in from time to time after your diagnosis. This is often caused by the stress of managing your diabetes. It could also be caused by feeling different from those around you.Of course, the serious health problems that can occur due to diabetes are also cause for depression. The key here is to realize that depression that has a reason is normal. It is a different kind of depression that needs treatment. If you find that you have the symptoms of depression, you need to discuss those symptoms with your doctor. Symptoms include trouble focusing or concentrating, change in sleep patterns and appetite, lack of energy, feelings of guilt, fatigue, and suicidal thoughts. If you have any of these symptoms, again, contact your doctor. He may find that this really is depression, and be able to treat it, but he may also find that the symptoms that you are experiencing are caused by out-of-control diabetes, which is very common.Just as diabetes is not going to rule your life — you are going to rule the diabetes — depression cannot be allowed to rule your life, either. Regardless of what causes the depression, or the symptoms of depression, seek treatment as soon as possible so that you can get back to the business of living life to the fullest!Milos Pesic is an expert in the field of Diabetesand has helped thousands of diabetes sufferers control their blood sugar. There are many natural remedies and foods available to help us cure and prevent disease. Nearly every disease or illness can be cured and/or prevented using natural methods without side effects as opposed to drugs, which are much less effective and come with dangerous side effects. A diet of foods that are as close to the source as possible is essential for good health. There are many examples that go to show that this is true, but certain large industries, especially the drug industry, keep this information hidden from the general public in order to maximize their profit.

One example is that most fruits act as cleansing agents for the body due to their alkaline properties. Various fruits, especially citrus fruits, can eliminate apparent digestive disorders as well as kill germs of the common cold. It can also improve the functioning of the organs of elimination. Apples can be used to fight diseases such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Strawberries and raspberries have also been shown to fight cancer because they contain a compound that kills cancer cells.

There are some foods that help to regulate cholesterol, most notably oatmeal and pears. These two foods raise the HDL cholesterol level and lower the LDL cholesterol level. Apples, oranges, beans, barley, and peas can also help to regulate cholesterol because they contain soluble fiber, which reduces the amount of cholesterol absorbed into the bloodstream.

Flax seed is another food that is of high nutritional value and is a good natural remedy. It helps prevent constipation and gastrointestinal disorders by eliminating the build up of toxins in the colon. It is filled with dietary fibers that readily absorb water to bulk up stool, induce regular bowel movement, and improve the functioning of the organs of elimination. Flax seed oil contains certain compounds that act as antioxidants to prevent certain diseases such as diabetes, tumors, and cancer. It also contains Omega 3 fatty acids, which lower blood cholesterol levels and regulate certain physiological processes within the body.

Also, it is good to eat a balanced diet and not to completely eliminate the intake of certain substances that have been labeled as harmful. Trans fat is an example of a substance that should be completely eliminated from the diet because it has been artificially hydrogenated. However, naturally occurring saturated fat is beneficial and necessary in moderate amounts. It has been shown to improve the ratio of HDL cholesterol to LDL cholesterol. It actually raises the levels of both but the improvement in ratio outweighs the increase in levels. This does not mean that it is a good idea to start eating large amounts of foods high in saturated fat. The word “moderate” is an important keyword. However, saturated fat should not be completely excluded from the diet.

A few other foods must be noted as being beneficial to health and to the prevention of disease. Organic yogurt and other sour milk products are recommended. Olive oil is also a product that is recommended on a regular basis. Green leafy vegetables, raw cheese, raw milk, raw nuts, and seeds should be included. Fresh juices made from beets, carrots, green beans, green leafy vegetables, peas, red grapes, and seaweed are all sources of concentrated nutrients.

Fried foods, refined foods such as sugar, artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, and nicotine should be eliminated and alcohol should be used moderately if at all. Trans fats, refined vegetable oils, refined sugar, refined starches, and nicotine all create serious heart disease risks.

These are just a few examples that show that a diet of natural (and preferably organic) foods, along with the exclusion of unnatural chemicals found in processed foods, is one of the best ways to prevent disease. It has also been shown that certain foods can act as natural remedies to treat and cure diseases. Information about these topics can be readily found on the Internet and in books. This information however is not well known by the general public. Large industries, especially the drug industry, are controlling the way the information is presented to the public. This is why this information is rarely communicated by doctors or in the press.

Diabetes Causes and Prevention

Author: Webmaster

Diabetes is a disease that affects the body natural ability to change carbohydrates and sugars into energy. There is no known cause for the onset of diabetes. However, there are certain factors that place a person at higher risk of contracting diabetes.

The risk factors of diabetes can include:

  • A family history of diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Poor diet
  • Physical inactivity

Different Types/Different Causes of Diabetes

There are three main types of diabetes -type-1, type-2, and gestational. Type-1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and most often affects children and young adults. An autoimmune disease is one in which the body ability to fight infections is decreased causing the body to attack its own cells. In type-1 diabetes, the body often attacks the beta cells in the pancreas -the cells that produce insulin in the body. The main diabetes causes of type-1 diabetes are:

  • Infections with specific bacteria or viruses
  • Food-borne chemical toxins
  • Cows milk -an unidentified component in cow milk can trigger an autoimmune reaction in the body. Young infants who are given cow milk have a higher risk of contracting type-1 diabetes.

The main diabetes causes of type-2 diabetes are:

  • Increasing age
  • Obesity
  • Physical inactivity
  • Poor diet
  • The main diabetes causes of gestational diabetes are:
  • Hormones produced during pregnancy blocking actions of insulin
  • Mother body can?t produce enough insulin

Common Causes of Diabetes

There are some common diabetes causes that include genetic causes as well as environmental causes. The risk of diabetes is higher if there is a family history of diabetes. Environmental factors that can lead to the onset of diabetes include poor diet, lack of exercise, obesity, and stress. Diabetes is a disease that can be prevented -or controlled once a diagnosis has been made.

Prevention and Control in Diabetes

While the symptoms of diabetes are not life threatening, diabetes can lead to other more serious diseases and illnesses. People who have been diagnosed with diabetes are at a higher risk of diseases and illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, neuropathy and nerve damage, foot conditions, and blindness. It is extremely important to control your diabetes in order to avoid the onset of these more serious and sometimes life-threatening illnesses.

There are medications that can be used in the control of diabetes, as well as many natural remedies. However, the single most important aspect of a diabetic management plan is a healthy diet and exercise. A healthy diet should consist of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, carbohydrates in healthy portions, Omega-3 fatty acids, proteins in healthy portions, and fiber. A healthy diet not only helps your overall health, but also can be a major factor in offsetting the symptoms of diabetes. The longer you can prevent the symptoms of diabetes, the longer you can decrease the risks of more serious illnesses associated with diabetes.

A regular exercise routine is also an important factor in the prevention and management of diabetes. All parts of your body are designed to work together in order to sustain life. By keeping your muscles toned and your blood flowing correctly, you can help your body to fight off infections and your body will be able to help in managing the symptoms of many illnesses. Strong muscles in the abdomen are essential for helping your digestive system work normally.

A Long, Healthy Life

It is possible to live a long, healthy life. You can help ensure that your body will work properly for a long time by beginning a healthy diet and routing exercise program early in life. The old saying, ?An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? has real meaning. By choosing to live a healthy lifestyle, you are choosing to consciously help your body fight of the symptoms of many illnesses and diseases. And, while some diseases are hereditary, such as diabetes, and you may still be at risk, by choosing to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you are helping your body become prepared to delay the onset of symptoms and to control the symptoms once they appear.

Diabetes is a disorder in which a person experiences a surge of blood sugar, which, in the long term, can lead to organ and tissue damage. Often referred to as diabetes mellitus, this disease is characterized by uncomfortable symptoms such as frequent urination, increased thirst, blurred vision, and wounds that take a long time to heal. Diabetes is also expensive to treat. This has prompted people to look for alternative treatments for diabetes that are just as good as available medications.

There are two common types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, where the body’s immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, happens when the body’s cells no longer respond to changes in insulin levels. There are alternative treatments for diabetes of either type.

Aside from alternative treatments for diabetes, patients are cautioned to follow their doctors’ orders and go by the traditional insulin route, along with a strict diet. Because diabetes has no known cure, any alternative treatments for diabetes are designed as palliative care; that is, they ease the symptoms and keep the body from accumulating dangerous levels of glucose.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method that involves inserting needles into specific points on a patient’s skin. This supposedly redirects the body’s energy field, so that the body heals itself; scientists believe that acupuncture can prompt the body to release its own painkillers. There are also stress reduction methods, such as biofeedback, where patients with diabetes are taught to relax, which might allow their diabetes to be less painful.

Also included in alternative treatments for diabetes are dietary supplements, such as chromium, ginseng, magnesium, vanadium, co-enzyme Q10, garlic, and omega-3 fatty acids. For more information, talk to your doctor about alternative therapies that might be suitable for your diabetes case.
